Sexual Health

The South West Public Health Observatory (SWPHO) has lead responsibility for sexual health across Public Health Observatories in England.

The Sexual Health Balanced Scorecard was launched in March 2010. The Scorecard was commissioned by the Department of Health and developed by SWPHO with the Health Protection Agency. The Scorecard provides a suite of nationally agreed indicators at Local Authority and Primary Care Trust level, presented in chart, table and map formats, together with documentation to support interpretation and use. A wide range of indicators is used relating to teenage pregnancy, abortions, contraception, sexually transmitted infections and other relevant issues. There are also useful links to relevant websites, events and reports providing the latest information about sexual health.

The aim is to provide a key source of sexual health information for public health, commissioning and performance management colleagues at a local, regional and national level. The indicators within the Scorecard will be developed further on an ongoing basis, drawing on data collection improvements and feedback received and will be updated at least annually.
